How Spinal Decompression May Help Address Sciatica

person sitting in a chair with leg painSciatic nerve pain can prevent you from engaging in all your favorite activities in life. Many people with this condition experience nerve pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness down the back side of the leg all the way to the foot.

At Dudum Chiropractic, we offer a modern approach to addressing sciatica with non-surgical spinal decompression.

What Is Sciatica?

Sciatica is an irritation or inflammation of the nerves that exit either the L4-L5 or L5-S1 nerve branch, which is the sciatic branch. If you have any kind of impingement or inflammation around that nerve that produces nerve type pain.

To help someone with sciatica, we first have to identify the cause. Here are some of the many causes:

  • Misalignment in the spine
  • Herniated disc
  • Canal stenosis
  • Piriformis syndrome

What to Expect

During the initial appointment, Dr. Dudum will sit down to have a consultation with you. He’ll ask you questions about your history to better understand what may have contributed to your sciatica.

To determine if you have any nerve damage, the possible level of sciatica, and any structural misalignments, Dr. Dudum will perform a detailed exam. He’ll follow up with either an X-ray or MRI image to get a clear-cut picture of what is the cause of the sciatica. Once he gathers his findings, Dr. Dudum can set up a treatment plan based on the consultation, examination and images.

Even if you’ve had previous disc herniation surgery, canal or spinal stenosis surgery, you can get spinal decompression.
